ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif challenged second time his conviction in Al-Azizia reference in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), today.
On Jan 2, the registrar office of IHC returned Sharif’s petition filed on Jan 1, declaring it as incomplete.
Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Haris filed an appeal in the high court today, requesting the court to declare his client’s sentence null and void, and release him on bail.
A two-member divisional bench of the Islamabad High Court will hear the appeal against Nawazs conviction and sentence.
On December 24, 2018, Accountability Court II Judge Arshad Malik had sentenced Nawaz to seven years in prison along with a fine of Rs1.5 billion and US$25 million in the Al-Azizia corruption reference. The former premier is serving his term in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail.
