Army starts operation against chotu gang as deadline for surrender expires


RAJANPUR: The security forces have started major operation against Chotu gang in Kacha area of Rajanpur district on Monday after expiry of the army deadline for surrender of the criminals.


According to reports, the security forces exchanged heavy firing with the criminals. The district administration had also declared emergency in the hospitals.

The Army had given the Chotu gang until 2pm on Monday (today) to surrender, police officials said. However, the deadline was extended for few hours, which was also expired.

The security forces launched the operation after corps commander Multan Lt Gen Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmad visited the area and reviewed the arrangements for the operation.

Corps Commander II Corps Maj Gen Ishfaq Nadeem chaired a high-level meeting in Rajanpur on Monday and took stock of the situation before leaving, an official said, adding that an emergency has been imposed in hospitals in Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur.

The officials have been directed to remain at their places of duty until further notice in order to take on any untoward situation in the aftermath of the expected operation, he said.
