ISLAMABAD: Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Sheikh Ashtar Ausaf Ali stepped down from his post, NewsOne reported on Wednesday.
The resignation of attorney general comes following the removal of Asma Hamid from the post of advocate general of Punjab by the government.
Ashtar Ausaf in his resignation to president Mamnoon stated that “I believe that in the wake of imminent general elections, it would only be correct for me to tender my resignation from Constitutional office, lest it be perceived by any party that my continued presence will impede the process of free and fair elections. The democratic transition, and its preservation, is a cornerstone of our Constitution and our democracy.”
He was appointed attorney general of Pakistan on March 29, 2016.
