PM Mulk announces national mourning, Baluchistan to observe 2-day mourning over Mastung Attack

Baluchistan: The Baluchistan government has announced two-day mourning in a province after a deadly suicide attack carried out in Mastung’s Darengarh area during a political gathering, claiming 127 lives including Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) Leader Nawabzada Mir Siraj Raisani and injuring 130 on Friday.

Siraj Raisani , who was contesting the election from PB-35 consituency, was the younger brother of Nawab Aslam Raisani, a former chief minister of Balochistan. In the past, 14-year old son of Siraj Duraani also slain as a result of the terrorist attack in Mustung.

Raisani along with other victims were taken to the hospital after the attack, but he was pronounced dead on reaching to the hospital.

According to survived victim, “the suicide bomber detonated himself near the stage where the political leaders including Siraj Raisani, who was contesting election from PB-35, were sitting.”

After the attack, emergency was declared in Quetta hospitals, and additional medical staff was also sent to the hospitals to look after the injured.

Deputy Commissioner of Mastung Qaim Lashari verified  that it was a suicide attack.

A senior police officer shared his suspicion with regard to the attack and said ” it seems like the target suicide attack was Siraj Raisani”, Dawn reported.

The banned Tehreek-Taliban Pakistan’s ‘Ghazi force Lal Masjid’ wing has claimed responsibility for the suicide attack.

Caretaker Chief Minister of Balochistan Allauddin Marri has strongly condemned the suicide bombing and called it a barbarian act. He shared his condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that the master-mind behind this attack would be brought to justice.

Condemning the Mastung massacre, in his tweet, Lijian Zhao said that they are deeply shocked and saddened, adding that the attack is as brutal as APS.

 

 

US state of department condemns the attacks on political candidates.

 

The United States has strongly condemned the attacks on political candidates and their supporters in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces of Pakistan. “These attacks are cowardly attempts to deprive the Pakistani people of their democratic rights,” State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert .

 

German Ambassador Martin Kobler sends out his prayers to afflicted families.

While the German ambassador Martin Kobler said that he was profoundly shocked and saddened about the news.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost their loved ones,” he added.

 

 

Social Rights activist Jibran Nasir, who are also contesting independently in this election, said that if we are honest with our sympathy for the lives lost then we must take action against those who spread the extremist ideology.

In the wake of the incident, the BAP has delayed its political rally which was supposed to be held on Saturday.

PM Mulk announces a day of mourning

Prime minister justice retired Nasir-ul-Mulk Saturday directed for observance of national mourning on Sunday (tomorrow) to pay tribute to the martyrs of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa terrorist attacks and express solidarity and sympathy with the bereaved families.

The Ministry of Interior has been directed by the Prime Minister office to issue official notification in this regard, PM office media wing in a press release said.
