Bilawal, Imran condemn custodial death of Aftab Ahmed


KARACHI: Chairman Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan on Thursday condemned the incident of custodial death of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Farooq Sattar’s coordinator, through a tweet.


Bilawal tweeted: “Torture and death of Aftab Ahmed (the coordinator) in state custody is absolutely unacceptable.”

While, Imran Khan posted on Twitter: “We have always opposed use of torture and custodial deaths and we condemn the same on MQM’s Aftab Ahmed.”

MQM had on Tuesday claimed that their activist died in the custody of Rangers.

MQM leader Khwaja Izharul Hasan had expressed concern over the ‘mysterious death’ of Aftab Ahmed in detention and demanded immediate investigation into the matter.

Ahmed was detained by law enforcers during a raid near MQM headquarters Nine Zero on Sunday evening. He was presented before a judge of the anti-terrorism court along seven other suspects.

Rangers had informed the ATC judge about 90-day detention of seven suspects, including Aftab Ahmed, for interrogation.

Scores of workers and leaders from the MQM had offered funeral prayers of Aftab Ahmed at Numaish roundabout of the city in on Tuesday evening.
