ISLAMABAD: After the end of polling for third phase of local body (LB) elections, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sardar Raza said the conduct of polls was ‘more comprehensive’ than the past.
Speaking at a news briefing, the CEC congratulated all concerned institutions over successful conduct of local elections.
He told that on the whole 171 companies of the Pakistan Army performed duties in three phases of the LB polls, while 15000 Rangers personnel were deployed during the process.
Raza said more than 440,000 police personnel performed security duties in three phases of LB polls in the country.
The CEC also thanked media for assisting the election commission by identifying irregularities at different places. He said the local polls were conducted in a more comprehensive way as compared to the past.
Sardar Raza said that the local polls cost 3.8 billion rupees, in which more than 80 million people exercised their right to vote.
The ECP trained 1 lac 22000 presiding officers, while 6 lac 90624 officials discharged duties in the local elections.
