CJP equates development ads to pre-poll rigging

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan has equated Government development ads as tantamount to pre-poll rigging.

In a suo-moto notice against the print, electronic ads run by provincial governments highlighting government performances along with their respective chief ministers pictures, the CJP observed that taxpayers money is being spent on these commercials.

In last hearing chief justice summoned information secretaries of KP, Punjab, Sindh seeking report on Government ads and their cost on electronic media.

However, CJP expressed displeasure when he was told that CM Punjab Shehbaz Sharif’s picture was televised during the ad, ‘CM should pay the expense from his party money rather than from national exchequer’, said CJP
