COAS Bajwa condoles loss of lives in Neelum Valley bridge collapse: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday condoled loss of precious lives in the tragic accident at Neelum Valley, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, ISPR reported.


According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Army chief directed to provide every possible help and support to civil administration.

Two helicopters of Pak Army have been dispatched to the site while the operation is underway.

At least 20 tourists were swept away when a bridge collapsed in Neelum Valley, Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday morning.

Police officials said around 25 tourists stopped to take pictures on the bridge, located in Nala Jagran area of the region, when it collapsed as it could not withstand the pressure.

As per the details shared, authorities have recovered around four bodies and rescued at least six people up till now.

However, the extremely cold water of the stream and its strong current are hampering efforts to recover the persons.
