ISLAMABAD – The massive plantation drive proposed by Advisor to Prime Minister Amin Aslam to plant 1.5 million saplings per day countrywide and 10 billion in the next five years will launch on September 2.
The prime minister will launch the drive by planting a sapling in Islamabad.
Mr. Aslam announced the “Plant for Pakistan” drive after Prime Minister Imran Khan approved his plantation drive proposal discussed in a provincial meeting on Monday at The Ministry of Climate Change.
Advisor to PM said at the meeting, “The purpose of the campaign is to encourage people, communities, organizations, business and industry, civil society and government to collectively plant trees.”
He said “Billion Tree Tsunami was a successful story, which was recognized both at the national and international levels and that programme had to be spread across the country.” he added, “Plant for Pakistan” drive would be integrated into the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami and emphasized that monitoring of plants was very important after their plantation.”
Mr. Aslam stated “the chief ministers of all the provinces would be asked to inaugurate mass afforestation on September 2, in their respective provinces too.”
He also instructed to include all institutions in this important task. National Highway authority was asked to plant trees on some points along Motorways and Highways.
He also directed the provinces to provide targets for massive afforestation for September 2, 2018. The meeting also featured a detailed presentation about September 2 massive tree plantation by the Green Pakistan Programme.
