Court allows Karachi superstore to open after administration’s shut order

KARACHI: Sindh High Court has allowed a private superstore in Gulshan-e-Iqbal to reopen, toppling administration’s closure order, reported Monday.

Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah headed a divisional bench to hear the plea challenging administration’s order to keep the store closed from 3:00pm to 9:00pm over traffic issue as there was no parking space there.

The court asked representatives of the administration, during the hearing, to explain why the business was shut over a traffic issue however, representative could not satisfy the bench.

The administration was directed by the court to control traffic and if it does not, it is its failure. If people park their vehicles outside the newly inaugurated store despite administration’s warning, it is its failure, the court stated.

The court allowed the administration to impose fine ranging up to Rs 10,000 and lift car of the violator.

The store was allowed to open while police were directed to control the traffic and take action against any violation.

The store was shut by the administration earlier after traffic ground to halt several times, jamming other roads due to no parking space available.
