Daniyal Aziz files appeal against his disqualification in contempt case

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former federal minister on Saturday has filed an intra-court appeal against Supreme Court’s decision of five-year disqualification in contempt of court case, Newsone reported.

On June 28,  Supreme Court of Pakistan sentenced former privatisation minister and Paksitan Muslim League (Nawaz) Daniyal Aziz for contempt of court “till rising of the court”

According to details, Daniyal Aziz in his appeal has mentioned to suspend the five-year disqualification punishment served in contempt of court case.

The contempt judgment also leads to automatic disqualification from Parliament for five years and thus Aziz was unable to contest the general election.

A contempt sentence of ’till rising of the court’ means the contemnor avoids jail and is punished symbolically until the bench remains in session.

A three-judge bench of the top court had taken suo motu notice of Aziz’s anti-judiciary remarks in February this year.

However, Mehnaz Aziz, wife of Daniyal Aziz contested the election from NA-77 Narowal on PML-N seat and won it by securing 106366 votes.
