ECP rebukes Ishaq Dar’s Senatorship

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday declared Ishaq dar’s senator ship null and void on the orders of the Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan, Newsone reported.

The action was taken due to Dar’s consistent non-appearance in the court in pending cases.

In May, Supreme Court of Pakistan, had suspended the Senate membership of former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

The apex court rescinded his membership as Pakistan Muslim League(Nawaz) stalwart failed to appear before the court owing to his ill health, as his counsel submitted his medical report before the bench.

The report stated that Dar who is currently being operated in London’s medical hospital is on medication, and if the situation remains the same, he might go through the surgery.

In March, a petition was submitted before the Supreme Court challenging the Lahore High Court verdict which permitted Dar to contest Senate Elections.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had filed an interim reference against the then-finance minister in September last year on the Supreme Court’s directives in the Panama Papers case.

Meanwhile, ‘Assets beyond sources of income’ reference is also underway against former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

He was indicted in the case and has been absconding since November.

On Tuesday, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) announced to bring back former finance minister Ishaq Dar back to country through Interpol.

The anti-graft watchdog will file an application to the Interpol at the concerned forum for their detain.
