ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry said on Monday that his next challenge would be to replace debit cards in Pakistan with a mobile phone payment system.
In a tweet, the minister said, “it is necessary for payments to be made easy for technological advancement. Inshallah in the next few months you will be able to make all your payments through your mobile from your bus ticket to purchasing a new car.”

On Sunday, the country’s first moonsighting website and Hijri Calendar were introduced by the minister according to which Eid will fall on June 5.
Fawad said the five-year Hijri Calendar has been sent to the Islamic Ideology Council and will be presented before the cabinet on Wednesday. “I personally believe that there is no need to have Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in the country,” added Fawad.
The minister acknowledged that a number of departments have collaborated to make the moonsighting website and calendar.
