FIR against Charsadda University attack registered at Mardan CTD

MARDAN: Case against Bacha Khan University attack has been registered in Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Mardan.


The first information report (FIR) includes terrorism and manslaughter sections.

On the other hand, an injured has succumbed to wounds while under treatment in Lady reading Hospital.

Law enforcers have conducted a search operation in surroundings of the university. More than 50 suspects have been detained in the operation. The university is shut today following the attack that claimed 21 lives.

Seven injured are still under treatment at District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ). The injured include five male students, one female students and a woman teacher.

Another two are under treatment at Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar.

According to the Lady Reading Hospital administration, the deceased student who died while under treatment belonged to Mohmand Agency and was named Ayaz.

Four militants entered Bacha Khan University on Wednesday and opened indiscriminate fire. Reportedly, a Phd professor of Chemistry department pulled out his pistol in bid to protect his pupils. However, he was martyred as he stepped out of the classroom.

Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt General Asim Saleem Bajwa said that forces have got a major breakthrough in the investigations. Sources said that the attack was planned in Afghanistan while funding was provided by Indian embassy.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif had visited Charsadda hospital and the university after clearance operation. He flew from General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi to pay a visit.

Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif directed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) ministers who were touring foreign countries at the time to return.

Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak also cut his visit short and immediately returned to Pakistan from United Kingdom (UK). Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Imran Khan visited the attack site and while talking to the media said that police and other agencies are to be lauded for their in-time action. The counter strategy of the agencies saved numerous lives, he added.
