KARACHI: A major fire that erupted in the Mal Khana [warehouse] of the city courts also engulfed the record house, destroying case properties, important documents, NewsOne Reported on Wednesday.
The fire which broke out on Tuesday night. as the law enforcers and Fire Fighters could not run an effective fire fighting operation due to blasts in warehouse.
After a struggle of six hours the fire was overcome in the morning. There was no one inside the room when the evidence went up in smoke.
The Sindh High Court’s registrar along with district and sessions judges visited the court premises. He said that some torched files were seen on the floor.
The evidence room housed items including explosives recovered from arrested suspects prompting a call to the bomb disposal squad.
DIG South claimed that evidence from Districts south and east were burned to ashes in the fire. “Districts Central, Malir and West’s data was miraculously saved,” DIG South Azad Khan added.
Investigations are currently underway to get to the bottom of this.
It is pertinent to mention here that cases against powerful political figures were also being heard at the City Court.
Earlier on Feb 25, same kind of fire broke out at the new Sindh Secretariat building where offices of CM Sindh, the information minister, revenue and industries ministers are located.
The fire brigade department has termed the fire that erupted in the Sindh Secretariat building ‘suspicious’.
Last year also Fire erupted in Sindh Secretariat which destroyed numerous records.
The fire started in the publication department and was spread to three more areas of the building.
