Girl jumps to death from hotel on Lahore’s Edgerton Road

LAHORE: A 16-year-old girl committed suicide by jumping to death from the sixth floor of a private hotel on Edgerton Road here on Saturday.

The police said that Laraib, a native of Dera Ghazi Khan, who had checked into the hotel two days ago, jumped to death from sixth floor of Hospitality Inn after an argument with her parents.

She was immediately rushed to Ganga Ram Hospital in critical condition but died inside the operation theater.

On the other hand, Laraib’s father said that she did not commit suicide. He said that children were playing with each other when the incident occurred.

Police are investigating the incident.

While suicide patterns have traditionally been low in Pakistan, there has been a slow but steep increase in the past few years.

One analysis of suicide reports, based over a period of two years, showed over 300 suicidal deaths in Pakistan from 35 different cities.
