I’m better off without politics: Dr Asim Hussain


KARACHI: Former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain was presented before the accountability court today (Wednesday) for the hearing of corruption case against him.


While having a brief media talk, a journalist asked him whether he is going to Islamabad, on which he replied that why would he visit Islamabad as he is an orthopedist and has no operation scheduled there.

“Will you contest in the elections?” questioned a reporter.

“I’m better off without politics,” he responded.

He said that he in unaware about Army Chief’s remarks on corruption as he neither watched the news on television nor read the morning newspaper.

Dr Asim Hussain also clarified that those people who complain of not attending their phone call have never contacted him.

The accused, chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, was arrested on Aug 26 last year during the ongoing Karachi operation.

A close aide to ex-president Asif Ali Zardari, Dr Asim Hussain has been accused of money laundering and unfair distribution of natural gas quotas as the federal petroleum minister.

He is also being investigated for suspected ‘terror financing’ and offering treatment to suspected criminals at his health facilities.
