ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has approved the strategy for re-verification of Computerized National Identity Cards (CNIC).
According to a declaration of the interior ministry, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan gave the approval after getting briefing from the chairman of National Database and Registration Authority NADRA.
It was said that NADRA will send an SMS to the family head seeking verification of the family members.
NADRA will use biometric SIM’s verification data of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for this purpose. It said the family head will respond in “No” to the SMS if he or she finds any wrong addition to his or her family tree.
The PTA has biometric SIM’s data of 130 million mobile SIMs users.
Initially, the re-verification process will be started in districts with more complaints of fake CNIC.
NADRA will also establish a helpline for re-verification, which will be able to receive ten thousand phone calls and three hundred thousand SMS daily.
