JIT to investigate Pathankot attack: Rana Sanaullah

LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah says investigators can grill any person in Pakistan in the case of India’s Pathankot airbase attack.

“A joint investigation team (JIT) comprising military and civil representatives will carry out the investigation. It can interrogate anybody in Pakistan,” said the minister while speaking to media persons in Lahore.

His remarks came hours after Pakistani authorities formally registered an FIR of this year’s terrorist attack in Gujranwala city.

Four Indian military men were killed when a group of terrorists stormed Pathankot airbase on January 2 this year. All of the attackers were eliminated by Indian troops.

The FIR has been registered against unidentified terrorists in Gujranwala Counter Terrorism Police Station under sections 302, 324 and 109 of Pakistan Penal Code and section 7 of Anti-terrorism Act.

The case has been registered on complaint of Interior Ministry Deputy Secretary.

“The case is lodged on basis of initial information provided by India to our interior ministry. Pakistan is thoroughly investigating the attack… action could be taken if India provided solid evidences,” he said.

“The case registration demonstrates our resolve against terrorism. Pakistan is committed and will no way allow terrorists to use its soil, we have zero tolerance in this regard,” the minister affirmed.

“There are just a handful of anti-state elements in Pakistan, and in Punjab there are almost nonexistent,” he claimed, while replying to a question.
