Kamal calls for empowering local bodies

KARACHI: Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) head Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday thanked people for attending his party’s first rally at Bagh-e-Jinnah last Sunday.

“Large numbers of people attended our jalsa and made it successful,” Kamal told a news conference in Karachi.

The former mayor, however, admitted that PSP could not run an effective broadcast campaign due to shortage of funds.

Former Karachi mayor said that democracy needed to be taken to grassroot level by empowering local governments.

“Local governments, not Prime Minister or Chief Minister, can resolve public issues. It is not the job of MNA or MPA to construct roads or streets,” he maintained.

The former mayor said that the accountability system should be handed over to local governments.

To a question, he said that MQM leader Wasay Jalil gets paid for his tweets and his salary comes from money collected through donations and extortion.
