Karachi: Police kills six militants in Manghopir

KARACHI: Six suspected militants were killed in an ‘encounter’ with police in the outskirts of Karachi Thursday evening, officials said.

Police conducted an intelligence-based raid on an alleged hideout of militants in Manghopir area, said SSP Rao Anwar. In the exchange of fire that ensued, six militants were killed, he said.

“They had come from Swat to carry out major terror acts in the provincial capital,” said the official, quoting an intelligence report.

Two of the deceased were identified as Haider Ali, commander of banned Tehreek Taliban Pakistan (Mullah Fazlullah group), while the other was identified as Abdullah.

Police claimed to have seized a large quantity of explosive material, arms and ammunition from their custody.
