LG polls: PTI challenges results of 7 UCs in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday challenged the results of seven union councils of Islamabad.

In the first ever Local Government elections held in the federal capital on Monday, the ruling PML-N bagged 19 seats followed by PTI, which won 17 seats.

Thirteen union councils were won by independent candidates.

In a statement yesterday, PTI Chairman Imran Khan said that his party would put up its candidate for the election of mayor in Islamabad.

“We are challenging 7 UC Chairmen/Vice Chairmen results which were suddenly altered overnight after PML-N was effectively exposed by PTI,” Khan tweeted.

“We will never have free and fair elections until ECP is independent & depoliticized and unless those indulging in crime of rigging are punished,” Khan added.
