Magnitude 5 quake hits Malakand


CHITRAL: A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.0 magnitude on the Richter Scale struck different areas of Malakand Division including Chitral in Sunday’s wee hours.


According to Pakistan’s Meteorological Department, the epicenter of the quake was located in border area of Afghanistan and Tajikistan in at a depth of 85 kilometers.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

In October last year a 7.5-magnitude quake ripped across Pakistan and Afghanistan, killing almost 400 people and flattening buildings in rugged terrain that impeded relief efforts.
