MQM leader Shoaib Bukhari dies after long illness

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s former provincial minister Shoaib Bukhari has passed away on Tuesday at 73.


The five times elected minister could not take part in General Elections 2013 due to severe illness. He had been under treatment for years.

Bukhari was born in Indian Allahabad on February 20, 1944 and moved to Karachi along with his family after partition. He educated himself in law and did his graduation before becoming a successful lawyer.

Bukhari was associated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement in 1980 and was elected as a provincial minister in the Sindh Assembly in 1990 for the first time.

He went to win on MQM’s ticket four more times after that.

Within the party, he served as a member of the rabita committee and part of the legal team.
