MQM worker suffers heart attack in Rangers custody

KARACHI: A worker of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Sunday underwent heart treatment after suffering a serious heart attack during Rangers custody in Karachi.

According to our correspondent, MQM’s Farhan Shabbir, who is in Rangers detention since being arrested on March 11, 2015, suffered cardiac arrest yesterday.

He was moved to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) where the MQM workers underwent angioplasty. Doctors say Farhan Shabbir is improving.

The MQM activist was collared last year by paramilitary Rangers during a raid on MQM headquarters Nine Zero. He is facing charges of murder and illegal arms possession.

His cardiac arrest came five days after four Rangers men were arrested over custodial death of MQM worker, Aftab Ahmed, whose postmortem confirmed torture on him, prompting army chief Raheel Sharif to order an inquiry.
