KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday conducted a raid at Sindh Information department in Karachi and seized records related to advertisements.
According to media reports, record pertaining to the commercials issued by the department was handed over to NAB by the Account General’s office.
NAB says contracts and advertisements were given to preferred people and news outlets.
The team also seized records that were burnt during the Sindh Secretariat fire in February this year.
Earlier in February this year, NAB indicted Sindh’s former information minister Sharjeel Memon and 10 others for allegedly embezzling Rs5.67 billion in an advertising campaign scam.
It is pertinent to mention here that, NAB had filed a reference in 2016 against the former minister, the then provincial information secretary, deputy directors of the Sindh information department and others for allegedly committing corruption from 2013 to 2015 in awarding advertisements of provincial government’s awareness campaigns in electronic media, thereby causing a loss of around Rs5.67 billion to the national exchequer.
