ISLAMABAD: Members of the Opposition and government alliance parties on Wednesday signed a petition for the issuance of former president Asif Ali Zardari’s production order.
According to sources, at the request of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), members of the government alliance parties signed the petition application.
The petition application was signed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) Syed Aminul Haque, Balochistan National Party (BNP) Chairman Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Balochistan Awami Party’s (BAP) Khalid Magsi and Jamhoori Watan Party’s (JWP) Shahzain Bugti, sources added.
Members of the government alliance parties, while signing the petition, said it is not about Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) co-chairman Zardari but it is about the supremacy of democracy, sources further added.
On June 10, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Zardari in the fake bank accounts case from Islamabad after a bench of the Islamabad High Court had rejected a plea filed by Zardari and his sister, Faryal Talpur, seeking an extension in their interim bail in the fake bank accounts case.
The case relates to transactions worth hundreds of millions of rupees to the two leaders’ private companies, allegedly, through fake bank accounts.
According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday issued orders for not issuing production orders for any member of the National Assembly, including Zardari.
The Premier issued the directives during a meeting he presided over here of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and alliance parties.
Addressing the participants, he dubbed members of the opposition “thieves, robbers”, saying that nowhere in the world criminals came to the parliament on production orders to deliver speeches against the prime minister or the government.
