Petition filed against Chairman NAB in Supreme Court, seeking dismissal

ISLAMABAD: A petion has been submitted before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, seeking the court to dismiss chairman National Accountability Bureau(NAB) Justice(R) Javed Iqbal from heading anti-graft body.

The petitioner is Pakistan Muslim League(Nawaz) stalwart Noor Ahmed Awan, who pleaded the court to take action against the chairman NAB over the ‘concocted’ press release by the NAB to defame the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

He also asked the court to seek apology from the chairman, or otherwise tender proofs against Nawaz for being involved in money laundering scandal, sending worth billion of Dollars to India.

Petitioner also contended that Chairman NAB has caused irreparable loss to his credibility for relying on the report which was even dismissed by the State Bank of Pakistan in 2016.

On May 8, NAB had issued a press release stating that will probe alleged laundering of $4.9 billion to India by Nawaz and others.

The press release mentioned that the information was taken from the Migration and Remittance Book 2016. However, the State Bank of Pakistan had rejected this information on September 21, 2016, the petition noted.
