PM calls CM Sindh, shows anger over arrest of MQM leader


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Friday called Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah and discussed the dramatic arrest of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Khawaja Izhar ul Hassan in Karachi.


According to reports, Prime Minister Sharif voiced his anger at the manner of Khawaja Izhar’s arrest by the police.

The chief minister briefed the prime minister about the arrest of Khawaja Izhar and his release order.

Izhar, who is Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly, was arrested following a police raid at his residence.

The raid was carried out by SSP Rao Anwar, who was later suspended by the chief minister.

Sindh police chief AD Khawaja also removed DIG East Dr Kamran Fazal and suspended Rao Anwar. “We will release Khawaja Izhar after fulfilling legal formalities,” Khawaja said.

Separately, DIG South Azad Khan reached Gaddap Town Police Station to escort the MQM leader to his office.
