PM Khan launches ‘Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Programme’

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched the ‘Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Programme’ for youth in Islamabad on Monday.


Addressing the participants, the prime minister said it is one of the best programmes as 50,000 scholarships will be given among the deserving students of 119 public sector universities across the country.

The PM mentioned that only those nations prosper who take great care of the poor and weak segments in the society.

Imran added, “I am particularly happy with this programme as my roadmap is the Madina model.The Madina model is the best in the entire world.”

He said the scholarship programme will enable youth to gain skills and prosper in life. “We can only reap benefits if we utilize the capabilities of our youth.”

He said that Hunarmand programme and health cards are aimed to facilitate the masses, especially the poor class.

The PM said the government’s initiative of shelter homes has also provided relief to the homeless people. “The PM said the government is also planning to provide legal aid to the poor people who cannot afford to hire lawyers to fight cases.

Imran highlighted that all the programmes are based on merit and it will help brighten the future of the country. He said the government will utilize all resources to make Pakistan a welfare state.

Earlier, Special Assistant to prime Minister on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety Sania Nishtar said Ehsaas  programme is the country’s biggest ever need based scholarship program for the undergraduates.

She said 50,000 scholarships will be given each year to the deserving students of 119 public sector universities across the country, including Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. A total of 200,000 students will benefit from this program.

Sania Nishtar said that 50% quota has been fixed in the undergraduate scholarship program for the women whilst two percent for the disabled persons.

She highlighted the scholarship program covers the tuition fee and Rs4,000 will be given to the students as a monthly stipend. The special assistant said that over 132,000 students have applied for the scholarship.

She said the whole process has been completed transparently with the cooperation of Higher Education Commission. Sania pointed out the HEC online portal for the receipt of scholarship applications for the next year will be opened this June.

She maintained that various programs have been launched under Ehsaas program to steer the poor people out of poverty.
