KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has announced to decorate Abdul Sattar Edhi with Nishan-e-Imtiaz posthumously and laying to rest with government protocol, reported Saturday.
In a statement issued, the premier has stated that if anyone deserves to wear national flag to his grave it is Edhi.
The premier expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of legendary social worker and humanitarian who breathed his last in Karachi on Friday.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced a state funeral and day of national mourning in honour of the man who owned just two sets of clothes, but whose work uplifting the nation s destitute and orphans cemented his place in the hearts of the masses.
“He was a real gem and asset for Pakistan. We have lost a great servant of humanity,” Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said in his condolence statement.
“He was the real manifestation of love for those who were socially vulnerable, impoverished, helpless and poor. This loss is irreparable for the people of Pakistan.”
The Prime Minister also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has stated that not the nation but the entire world would mourn the death of Edhi.
