PM stresses benefits of CPEC to be equally shared

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday emphasized, The benefits of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to be equally distributed among the federating units.


The PM stated this while chairing a high-level meeting where he was briefed on the progress made in the recently-held Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) meeting on CPEC in Beijing on December 29, he expressed satisfaction over the progress on CPEC-related projects and lauded the government’s performance and effort to bring foreign investment to the country

About establishment of Industrial Parks, Prime Minister directed the federal authorities to initiate process of providing electricity, gas and telecommunication to the proposed sites.

He was taken into confidence with regards to a recent agreement on 300 MW power projects that would start in the near future, The Gwadar water supply project, hospital; technical institutes and mass transit railway project were also a subject of discussion at the JCC in China.

He was further notified regarding China’s affirmation to consider and examine the Indus Cascade projects.

He congratulated the Water and Power ministry for securing a grant of US $ 1.5 Billion for Lahore-Matiari Transmission Line project which is to be funded under CPEC and directed to actively pursue it till implementation.

He recognized the efforts for inclusion of Mass Transit projects in four provinces and directed the Railways Minister to facilitate the provinces by giving ‘technical advice’ for project feasibility.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal, Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi and Secretary to PM Fawad Hassan Fawad.
