KARACHI: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team on Thursday carried out a raid at the residence of Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Miftah Ismail to arrest him in liquefied natural gas (LNG) import contract case hours after former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s arrest by NAB in the same case from Lahore.

The NAB team arrived at Ismail’s residence in Karachi today to make the arrest and found out that the PML-N leader was not at home and his cell-phone was also apparently switched off.

However, the anti-graft watchdog’s officers claimed that Ismail was in the house.

Arrests warrants for the former finance minister Ismail and former Pakistan State Oil (PSO) managing director Shaikh Imranul Haque were issued by NAB subsequently after Abbasi’s arrest by the anti-graft watchdog. There was a possibility of Ismail being arrested in the next 24-48 hours, the sources had said early in the day.

The ex-premier Abbasi was arrested by a 12-member NAB team in a multi-billion-rupee case today related to the award of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import contract. Abbasi was on his way to attend a press conference, accompanied by PML-N leaders Ahsan Iqbal and Maryam Aurangzeb when he was arrested on the Thokar Niaz Baig interchange.
