ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday has approved 14 days physical remand of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate – Engineer Qamarul Islam Raja and Waseem Ajmal, accused in Punjab’s Saaf Pani Company case, NewsOne reported.
(PML-N) candidate – Engineer Qamarul Islam Raja contesting against party’s disgruntled leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan from Rawalpindi’s NA-59 constituency was aressted on Monday by NAB.
According to NAB, Raja who has served as the chairman of the Saaf Pani Company, has misused his position and awarded contracts at a higher rate.
As the hearing went underway, Engineer Qamarul Islam Raja lawyer argued that the lowest bid was of Rs1.11 billion and they negotiated to bring it down to Rs980 million.
The Court then adjourned the hearing till July 9.
It is pertinent to mention here that NAB in November last year had launched a thorough probe into alleged corruption in the 56 public-sector companies formed by the Shahbaz Sharif administration in Punjab. These companies are accused of certain irregularities, recruitment in violation of procurement rules and merit, nepotism, and non-completion of various projects in time.
On other hand Raja’s 12-year-old son has announced to run election campaign in the absence of his father.
On Sunday PMLN nominated Raja Qamar, Mumtaz Khan from National Assembly 59 and 63 constituencies respectively to contest elections against ex interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan.
