PMLN backed candidate Dr Asad Ashraf wins from vacated Senate seat of Nehal Hashmi

LAHORE: Independent candidate backed by Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Dr Asad Ashraf won from the vacated Senate seat of Nehal Hashmi’s  seat at Punjab Assembly.

Nehal Hashmi vacated his seat after being disqualified by the Supreme Court on contempt of court charges.

According to newsone, Dr Asad Ashraf, who contested as an independent candidate in a senate by-election due to the Supreme Court’s recent decision nullifying all actions taken by disqualified PML-N then president Nawaz Sharif, contested against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Dr Zarqa Taimur.

The Punjab Assembly had around 315 members on the treasury benches and around 53 in opposition, therefore it had ensured a certain win for the PML-N backed independent candidate.

Talking to media Punjab’s provincial law minister Rana Sanaullah said that those who desire PML(N) to vanish would vanish themselves one day, an apparent reference to Election Commission of Pakistan recent decision barring PML(N) candidates to contest senate elections on party basis.
