In a surprise move on Wednesday, PTI withdrew support for Nasir Khosa’s candidature for Punjab’s caretaker chief minister.
Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Mehmmod-ur-Rasheed said the names were decided after the party’s leadership held consultations.
Punjab Assembly opposition leader, Mehmmod-ur-Rasheed said the names were decided after the party’s leadership held consultations. Rasheed hoped that he would be able to discuss this matter with Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif later this evening.
On Monday, Punjab government and opposition had agreed to appoint Khosa as the province’s caretaker chief minister.
While speaking to media in Lahore on May 28, Rasheed had announced the selection of Khosa candidature for the position. Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif had later said consensus had been reached on the candidate, who is a former chief secretary. He had also praised the Khosa’s personality.
Earlier in a day, Nasir Khosa has announced that he will not assumed the caretaker CM post, after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI) had withdrawn his name for the post.
“I was made controversial in the media [after withdrawal of support] for my candidature for Punjab CM. Given the [current situation], I have decided not to [take charge] as the chief minister,” he said.
Hasan Askari is a political and military analyst, noted for his work in comparative politics, nuclear weapons, and country’s domestic policy. He is currently serving as professor emeritus of political science at the Punjab University, Lahore.
On the other hand Nasir Durrani is a retired Pakistani police officer. He was appointed as the Inspector General of Police of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where he served from September 2013 to March 2017
It is pertinent to mention here that Nasir Durani is currently a member of Punjab Public Service Commission nominated by CM Punjab Shehbaz Sharif.
