ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Yousaf on Wednesday suspended Mufti Abdul Qavi’s membership of Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after ‘controversial pictures’ on social media.
The minister also suspended the mufti’s membership in the National Ulema Mushaekh Council, a spokesman for the Ministry of Religious Affairs said.
The matter of the controversial selfies of Mufti Abdul Qavi has been referred to National Ulema Mushaekh Council for further procedure, the spokesperson added.
“Qavi will not be allowed to attend meetings of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and National Ulema Mushaekh Council until further orders. Mufti Qawi’s fate will be decided after the opinion of the National Ulema Mushaekh Council regarding his selfies and behavior,” the spokesman said.
Earlier on Monday, Pakistani social media sensation Qandeel Baloch uploaded selfies on her social media accounts with Mufti Abdul Qavi, which went viral.
