ISLAMABAD: According to Metrological department, the sighting of moon for the month of Holy Ramzan is expected to be on the horizon on May the 16th, 2018, therefore the first day of Ramazan will be 17th May, Thursday, two weeks from now.
The department further said Ramazan’s new moon will be born on May 15 at 4:49pm.
According to the Met Office’s readings, the age of the new moon will be 26 hours and 45 minutes at the time of sighting on May 16.
It further added that moon will be visible for 61 minutes after sunset.
Muslims all over the world fast during the days of this holy month, and make special prayers at nights. The month of Ramzan traditionally begins with a new moon sighting, marking the start of the ninth month in the Islamic calendar.
During this period, the Muslims who fast abstains from food, drink, and other prohibited activities during daylight hours.
Ramazan ends when the first crescent of the new moon is sighted again. Eid-ul- Fitr is the Islamic holiday that marks the end of Ramazan.
