Seven drown as car plunges into canal in Mianwali

At least six people lost their lives after the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a canal in Mianwali on Sunday.

Police said that a family of six was travelling in a car when it tried to overtake another vehicle. However, the driver lost balance of the car due to speeding and it plunged into the canal, the police added.

As a result, all seven occupants of the car drowned. There was a man, three women and two children in the car, the police maintained.

The victims have been identified as Abdul Rauf, Shakeela, Tanzila, Dilshad, Abu Bakar, and Eman.

Rescue officials said one body has been recovered while search is under way to find the bodies of other six persons.
