Shehbaz Sharif elected as interim PMLN president, Nawaz Quaid forever

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League(Nawaz) has elected chief minister of Punjab Shehbaz Sharif as the new interim president of Pakistan Muslim League(Nawaz).


However surprisingly former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been elected as the Quiad of PML(N) for lifetime.

Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Shehbaz Sharif suggested the name of Nawaz to be the quaid for lifetime.

PML(N) had summoned central working committee meeting today which selected Shehbaz Sharif to lead the party; however his permanency to be the full time president of PML(N) would be in action after 45 days through the party’s general council meeting.

Last week on Wednesday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had dismissed clause 2013 of Election Act, 2017 , barred former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to preside the party based on his disqualification in panama ruling case.

Clause 203 of Election Act, 2017 gave the right to a disqualified person to lead the party.

Following that dismissal the Election Commission of Pakistan removed the name of Nawaz Sharif as PML(N) president making it incumbent upon the ruling party to elect their new president.

Various names since then circulated on media about the possible candidate for party’s presidency including Nawaz ‘s ailing wife Kulsoom Nawaz, however finally Shehbaz Sharif has been elected as a new acting president.
