ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister of Punjab Shehbaz Sharif has been elected as Pakistan Muslim League(Nawaz) president, newsone reported.
Shehbaz Sharif is elected as the party president unopposed, sources confirmed.
Brother of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz is the incumbent CM of Punjab, famous for developmental work more specific to Lahore.
Last month, Supreme Court of Pakistan had dismissed Nawaz from PMLN’s presidency, stating that a disqualified person can not lead the party and be a king maker, as the apex court dismissed clause 203 of Election Act 2017, which rendered the right to a disqualified person to lead the party.
Nawaz Sharif was disqualified from parliamentary politics in Panama Papers case, on July 28, 2017.
Following that dismissal PML(N) nominated Nawaz as a Supreme leader for a lifetime, whereas Shehbaz was ascended to PML(N) presidency on Nawaz’s referral last month.
