Sindh cabinet decides to write another letter to Center regarding Rangers powers

KARACHI: Sindh Cabinet on Wednesday decided to write another letter to the federation regarding powers of Rangers in Sindh. The decision was made in a high level meeting of the provincial cabinet chaired by Chief Minister (CM) Sindh Qaim Ali Shah.

According to the details, many important decisions have been made in the meeting including writing another letter to the Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif and the Federal Interior Ministry regarding the powers of Rangers in Sindh.

It was advised by the members that the provincial government should not go to court yet. The media advisor Sindh Moula Bakhsh Chandio said that Sindh doesn’t want to restrain Rangers from working but every institute should work within its jurisdiction.

He also said that they do not want any conflict with federation so PM should himself resolve this issue.

Home Minister Sindh and Law Advisor briefed Sindh Cabinet about the decision of Federal Government on the issue of Rangers’ power in Sindh.

The office holders of Sindh Assembly condemned the federation for rejecting the resolution presented by Sindh Assembly. It was also decided in the meeting that the PM and Federal Interior Minister will be taken in confidence on the resolution as well.

A day after rejection of Sindh government’s summary by the Ministry of Interior, Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has summoned an emergency meeting today (Wednesday) to ponder different options on Rangers’ powers.

On Tuesday, the interior ministry rejected the provincial government’s summary and extended Rangers’ special powers for another 60 days.

According to sources, the provincial government has started consultation with legal experts and later the authorities could approach court in this regard.

The Sindh cabinet meeting is likely to reject the interior ministry’s decision on Rangers’ powers.

Talking to media after meeting with National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in Karachi, Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani said that the federal government should not have rejected the resolution straightaway.

Federation’s attitude on the matter is regrettable, he said.

Siraj Durrani said that Nawaz Sharif’s government exists due to Asif Ali Zardari.

Provincial minister Sikandar Mandhro also stated that the Sindh Assembly resolution was passed in accordance with the law and constitution.

He said the provincial government can still use several options on the matter.
