Supreme Court orders Rao Anwar name to be placed on ECL after failed attempt to flee Dubai

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the Interior Ministry to place the name of Rao Anwar in Exit Control List, on Tuesday.

Former SSP, Rao Anwar was suspended from his post over the fake encounter killing a South Waziristan’s native Naqeebullah Meshsud, to whom Rao Anwar accused of being the active member of outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in Karachi.

Following the killing of Naqeebullah Meshsud and social media outcry, the inquiry committee was set up by the Inspector General Sindh A.D Khowaja, which dispelled the allegations put by Rao Anwar against Naqeebullah Mehsud, vindicating the deceased as an innocent man.

However, Rao Anwar was adamant to his claim that Naqeebullah was the wanted terrorist and his encounter was justified; in the meanwhile he also denied to appear in front of the inquiry committee alleging them for having bias against him

On Monday evening,  Federal investigative Agency foiled the escape attempt of Rao Anwar, when he was prevented to fly Dubai from Benazir International Airport.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar has summoned Rao Anwar on 27th January in the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry,  also placing his name on ECL.
