Waseem Akhtar says he has not confessed anything about 12 May incident

KARACHI: Police opened seven cases against Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Waseem Akhtar on Wednesday and interrogated few others based on the information gathered from nominated mayor.


Police had claimed that Waseem Akhtar confessed about his inclusion in 12 May 2007 incident and told police that he gave directions to do firing on the rally of former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. There were 36 cases registered against Waseem Akhtar but he got bail in 27 of them.

On the other hand MQM announced that Waseem Akhtar met the panel of his lawyers in central jail and told them that all the news regarding his confession was not true and condemned that. He also wrote that his reputation was being affected due to these statements and there should be open inquiry on 12 May 2007 incident. He also wrote that he did not make any confession nor revealed anything.
