Web Desk: The 1965 war hero Muhammad Mahmood Alam, popularly known as MM Alam is being remembered on the 5th death anniversary on Sunday.
MM Alam is remembered for establishing a world record of downing five Indian aircrafts in less than a minute on 07 September 1965, the last four within thirty second, with total of nine aircraft downed in the war.
Alam was the eldest son of 11 siblings who was born in Calcutta on July 6 1935. The family migrated from Calcutta to Eastern Bengal which became East Pakistan following the formation of Pakistan in 1947. Alam was granted commission in PAF (then RPAF) on October 2 1953.
MM Alam retired from PAF as an air commodore and took up residence in Karachi where he took his last breath on 18 March 2013 at the age of 73.
