LAHORE: The Wagah border was a sight for sore eyes on Friday as a charged-up crowd kept on chanting slogans of Allah-hu-Akbar (God is great) and Pakistan Zindabad.
Thousands of people attended the distinguished ceremony. During the lowering of the flags ceremony, the crowd could be heard chanting loud and clear ‘Pakistan Zindabad’.
Sea of national flags could be seen as almost every man, woman and child was carrying it.
Nation is celebrating the Pakistan Day today (Friday), March 23 in a befitting manner to work hard for the progress and prosperity of the country.
A joint military parade was held to mark Pakistan Day at Parade Ground near the Shakarparian hills in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Defence Minister Khurrum Dastagir, Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, Naval Chief Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi and Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee Zubair Mehmood Hayat also witnessed the parade. A large number of diplomats from several countries also attended the ceremony.
Guest of honour at the ceremony, Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, accompanying President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain was also present.
March 23 is celebrated every year to commemorate the adoption of Pakistan Resolution by the All India Muslim League in 1940 at Lahore’s Minto Park (now Iqbal Park). The resolution demanded a separate homeland for Muslims in the subcontinent.
