On Wednesday, Telangana BJP leader K Laxman called the Indian tennis star Sania Mirza as “daughter-in-law” of Pakistan- in a controversial remark, and explored about her certification to be the brand ambassador of Telangana state.
In response to the incident, Congress mentioned to the BJP leader’s statement on Sania as “bizarre”. The TRS government had of late decided to appoint the tennis star as brand ambassador of the newly carved-out state.
Sania was born in Maharashtra and settled in Hyderabad only later and, therefore, is a “non-local”, sources stated. He further named her as “daughter-in-law” of Pakistan, identified that she was married to the Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik.
The 27-year-old tennis player had never participated in the excitement for a separate state of Telangana, pronounced Laxman, who is the leader of BJP in Telangana Legislative Assembly. He charged the regime of taking the step with an eye on the minority community votes in upcoming elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
On Tuesday, passing over a grant of Rs 1 crore here, Chief Minister K C Rao appointed Sania Mirza as brand ambassador of Telangana and related her as a daughter of Hyderabad.
