Islamabad United thrashes Multan Sultans by 33 runs, qualify for playoffs

SHARJAH: Islamabad United beat Multan Sultans by 33 runs in the 25th fixture of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to qualify for playoffs.


Batting first Islamabad United with the help of Luke Ronchi and Alex Hales set target of 186- runs for for Multan Sultans in the most important match of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

In response Multan Sultans were all out in 19.1 overs scoring 152 runs. This time again their batting order fails badly as half of the team went back to pavilion at the score of 50.

Pollard showed some resistance in the end but there was no one to support him on the other end. He smashed 73 runs (47) balls hitting 6 sixes and five fours.

Luke Ronchi was awarded Man of the match.

With this defeat Multan Sultans have completed their all 10 matches in the tournament. Now in this situation either Peshawar Zalmi or Multan Sultans from both teams one team will qualify for Playoffs. Zalmi, still left with their remaining two games. They have to win both of their matches to qualify for Playoffs.

First Innings: 

Opening batsmen Luke Ronchi provided good start to Islamabad United as he scored 58 runs (36) balls smashing 3 sixes and 6 fours.

JP Duminy was the first batsmen to get out. He was run out on 6 by Shoaib Malik. Alex Hales-who was playing his first match of the PSL, was impressive with the bat as he scored quick 46 (33) balls hitting a six and 4 fours.

Husain Talay played late cameo in the end by smashing 36 runs off (21) balls. He was helped by Asif Ali who made not out 17 runs.

Umar Gul yet again was impressive with the ball today as he finishes his spell with figures of 2 for 26 in 4 overs.

Earlier, Multan Sultans have won the toss and elected to bowl first in the 25th fixture of the Pakistan Super League third edition (PSL).

Islamabad United are in red-hot form as they are undefeated in their last four matches. Both team did changes in their playing XI.

From Multan Sultans Whiteley and Umar Gul replaced Junaid Khan and Hardus. Alex Hales has joined Islamabad United and he is playing his first match in PSL. Alex Hales and Imad Butt come in for Steven Finn and Zafar Gohar.

Islamabad United are at top in the tournament so far with 12 points, following Quetta Gladiators

Meanwhile Karachi Kings are on third position with nine points. Multan Sultans is at fourth position with 9 points. Zalmi stands at fifth position. Lahore Qalandars holds last position with 4 points.
