Kamran Akmal’s ton propels Peshawar Zalmi to playoffs

SHARJAH: Kamran Akmal’s unbeaten and maiden century of Pakistan Super League third edition (PSL 3) propelled Peshawar Zalmi to register a 7 wicket win over Lahore Qalandars in the second last group stage match of the PSL 3.

Batting first Qalandars have set target of 173 runs for Zalmi which they chased down easily for the loss of 3 wickets courtesy Kamran Akmal’s brilliant not out 107 runs (61) balls. He smashed 7 sixes and 11 fours all over the ground.

He was well supported by Muhammad Hafeez who played sensibly and given most of the strike to Kamran Akmal who was in a good knick today.

Saad Nasim finishes off in style by hitting a four to make his side over the line. He made quick not out 17 runs (08) balls, hitting a six and two fours.

From Lahore Yasir Shah and Abbott picked up two and one wicket respectively.

With this win Peshawar Zalmi have qualified for playoffs with 10 points. Kamran Akmal was awarded Man of the match.

First Innings 

Lahore Qalandars started off aggressively after winning the toss and opting to bat against the Peshawar Zalmi side which is playing for survival, a win today will catapult the Zalmi to the playoffs and a loss will send them packing.

Hasan Ali gave Peshawar their first breakthrough when he dismissed opener Fakhar Zaman for 6.

Courtesy Devcich 75 run helped Qalandars to set a decent total for Peshawar in must win game for them. Davich scored 75 runs off (42) balls hitting 7 sixes and 2 fours.

He was caught by Muhammad Hafeez off Hasan Ali.

Sohail Akhtar in the late overs played handful innings of 30 runs (16) balls not out for his team. He was well supported by Gulraiz Sadaf.

Hasan Ali took 2 wickets for 24, while Wahab Riaz and Sameen Gul took one each.

Now Karachi and Multan to wait for the results of the last league match of this PSL. The match tonight between Islamabad United and Karachi Kings will decide the fourth team of the playoffs.

It will be advantage Karachi: if they win, they’re through. Even if they don’t, they’ll have to try their best to score as much as possible to be able to surpass Multan on NRR, as a scenario where Karachi comes up short would see them tied with Multan with 9 points each.
