Najam Sethi resigns as PCB chief

LAHORE: As Imran Khan sworn in as prime minister of Pakistan, Najam Sethi on Monday announced his resignation from the post of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman.


Najam Sethi tendered his resignation as PCB chairman in a tweet.

“I was waiting for the new Prime Minister to take oath before submitting my resignation as PCB Chairman, which I have done today. I wish PCB all the best and hope our cricket team goes from strength to strength. Eid Mubarak. Pakistan Zindabad,” he tweeted.

On Aug 04, the veteran journalist and PCB chief while giving reply to one of his fan on twitter has announced that he will come back on TV soon.

“Najam Sethi we want you and your sparrow on T.V with shocking revelations. Also you have done a great job as PCB Chairman,” tweeted by Sethi’s

“Inshallah my chirya and I will be back on tv soon,” replied Sethi.


Najam Ali Sethi was appointed as PCB chief in 2017. He also holds a position of Pakistan Super League (PSL) chairman.

Last month Pakistan Cricket Board’s General Body has unanimously given Chairman PCB Najam Sethi unqualified vote of confidence for his tireless efforts to revive cricket in Pakistan.

The vote of confidence resolution was presented at the meeting by Regional Presidents and wholeheartedly endorsed by the entire General Body.

Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi chairman Javed Afridi couldn’t stop himself to speak in support of Najam Sethi as PCB chief.

Javed Afrdi in his tweet mentioned that Najam Sethi has performed remarkable as PCB/PSL chairman, adding that PM in waiting Imran Khan will win love of cricket fans if he allows Najam Sethi to continue work as PCB chief.

“Najam Sethi has performed remarkably as PCB/PSL Chairman. Imran Khan will win love of cricket fans if he worked with him to further uplift PCB/PSL,” he tweeted.

He acknowledged Najam Sethi’s 24/7 handwork for the revival of cricket and bringing back cricket to home soil.

Since taking over as PCB chief he has made a real effort of bringing a professional change and approach at PCB. The revival of international cricket has already been a huge success in Lahore and Karachi.

The three World XI games in Lahore, T20 against Sri Lanka, three T20s against the West Indies and three PSL matches including the grand final in Karachi last March have brought real joy to the cricket fans in the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that Najam Sethi has also served as an caretaker chief minister of Punjab before 2013 general elections. The PTI chief and possible PM of Pakistan Imran Khan had accused Najam Sethi on several occasions for rigging general elections 2013.
